    What about a flannel rag quilt! They are heavy but warm.

    There are a lot of Minky colors so I think you could probably find one to go with it. Men like "soft" as well and I would think that it would be much warmer with the Minky backing. I'd say, go for it.

    Be sure and wash the flannel before using. Also use the color catchers or Retayne. Flannel shrinks and runs terribly. I did a couple of quilts last year and used fleece for the backing and they were super warm--used batting, too.

    lovely choice in fabrics, he will love it. Oct 10 is our wedding anniversary too. No way close to 25 years though. 8 wonderful years.
