I bought a circular shape cutter board today, and it says it recommends using a 28mm rotary cutter. Naturally, Hobby Lobby didn't have any such critter, nor did the Walmart across the street. Do any of you have them, and are they really useful? I can't see spending the extra money if I can deal with this with my 45mm cutter, and not get much use otherwise out of a 28mm. Oh, and is the blade movable for lefties?

yes its just like your 45 mm just obviously smaller... Joannes carries them and im shocked the Hobby Lobby didnt.

i use my 28 mm cutter alot- it is great for curves, small shapes- less slip ups - easier to get into (or around) the smaller shapes/curves that the 45 is simply too large for- but i had it for 3 or 4 years before i used it at all- i guess it depends on how much curved piecing you do??? i've found that lots of my tools spend long periods of time in a drawer- then all of a sudden i need them- and wonder why it took me so long- but then when i've moved on to other things they go back in the drawer- i have an 18 too- i use that one more than the 28---i do alot of applique- and it is great for small pieces.

Some templates are a bit narrow for the 45 mm cutter but the 28 mm works well in them.

I use mine a lot and my 18mm...the only way to cut tight areas...like curves, circles, etc

I use my 28mm for almost everything I cut...I don't own a 45mm, just 28mm and 60mm. I like the control I have with it and it cuts just fine through 4 layers of fabric. It's never 'jumped' the edge of the ruler like my 60mm does sometimes either.

It's great for tight spaces. Here's one on eBay (buy it now for $8.99). Seems like a decent price to me. Joann's sells it online for $15.99.

They are great for curves. JoAnn's has them on sale this week for 40% off, I believe, or you can always use your coupon. This week coupons are 50% off. That is the way to buy things like that.

I found one on ebay and bought it. I figure I will get enough use out of it to make it worthwhile. Once I see how much I like it, I will order more blades. I have some projects in mind that are going to use circles, so need to get with it, lol. In the meantime, I will go hunt down where I stashed all the peacock feathers. Uh yeah. A bright idea came to me in those moment right before you fall asleep, lol....and I want to see if it will work. I can always find some project, lol.

all you have to do is try to cut the curves with your 45 mm cutter...when that doesn't work, you will use your 28 mm...
