Okay I checked on the Ismacs site... and there WAS a card table to fit the long bed 301's.... #314. The cutout measures 19 1/4 x 7". Yes, it had metal legs too. Here is the link.

deep breath, first post here.... I have recently decided to take up quilting again (in addition to spinning and knitting) under controlled circumstances- and wanted to FMQ instead of hand quilting like I did in the late 80's early 90's. So, I couldn't do that type of abuse to my 221, and my DH found this forum and asked me why I didn't have a 301. Hmm, hubby's asking me why I don't have something expensive- either he is ill, or is a pod person- anyway, we go to craigslist and find a mocha 301 (from 1951) with the art deco cabinet and the original chair, with loads of attachments for $125. Like 2 days after I had asked for a sewing table for my (newish) New Home. The machine had been in use until last year when her previous owner passed away, needed an oiling and general clean up and viola! sews like a dream.

I recently bought a 301a black and paid only about $70 total for it. I did have to order a new foot control and power cord. That cabinet is highly valued!! You're lucky to get it!

Nah. Look real close and you can see the light reflecting off the lip of it. It is just raised up. It's still there. And I want a cabinet like that so much! I have the dark deco cabinet which I like, but The corner cabinet would be more space conserving.

If you got a 301, trapazoid cabinet and matching stool all for less than $200....my gawd, what a deal! Lucky you!!!! I'm soo envious, but pleased that there's someone else to FMQ on em. In the Vintage Sewing Machine section of this whole board, there are tutorials posted on just how to clean up, polish, refurbish and fix up the old gals and their cabinets. It's easy (shusssh, don't tell my sew shoppe that... they think it's a sin...if I do the work myself!). !!!

I just discovered that the Card Table I got with my 403, will ALSO take the shortbed 301... how I'm not certain. It may or may not use the cradle, since the card tables were not meant to have the machines 'stow away' underneath them. You set the machine in the table and the machine deck is flush with card table surface. There's no other real fastening needed for the 403, it just rests on the metal rails... right in it's carry case bottom. I'll figure it out when I get all these machines put away in my sewing room! Right now, there's no space to set up the card table to check.

.....my bad, you're right, it is a short bed.
I like it, the blacks ones are rare around here.
My long bed (301A) is the mocha colored one and the paint is coming off in some places, but the stitching and the free motion quilting performance is tops.
What is the actual price for this Beauty?
Once it has been cleaned and oiled, it should be perfect.

I already purchased one....that is what was wrong...put new
one on and now bobbin winds perfectly.

Since found out that the long bed or short bed takes the same cradle (according to an ebay lady) since the machine base is the same. The bed extension just folds down into the remaining open space. If that is true, then it seems to me you could router out any table or cabinet to match. (of course, the table/cabinet in question would be totally useless for other machines... ). I think... at least that's what I'm told...
