Hello, I am new to quilting. I decided the first thing I needed was fabric...so I bought a bunch of 4" and 5" blocks on ebay, now I need easy patterns for them :) I have a friend who is going to teach me to sew, but this will be the first time in 20 years ive sewn. She is letting me use an old white 1632 sewing machine since trying to figure out what sewing machine to buy was very overwhelming.

So not to complicated is what im saying :) Any suggestions are great.

What about just sewing the squares together? that is how i started out! lay them out and sew them together as big as you want for a lap quilt!

Here is a site for free patterns using charm packs. I made the charm pack plus and it turned out beautifully.

I had a similar question not long ago and have been researching patterns ever since, as I have a couple of other projects to finish first.

This stacked coins quilt looks like a good one

It could be a baby quilt or a lap quilt, depending on what your fabric looks like. Good luck!

If you go to HOME, scroll down to the bottom under activities and there's a 9p activity. In there are a lot of very simple 9P blocks to make.

    Have fun!!!

Welcome from Centennial,Colorado. It looks like you have already been supplied with some great ideas. Make sure you post pics when your quilt is completed. I think charms are perfect for a first quilt.
