From E-bay I bought 500 squares for $24.99 with free shipping. Most of them are 500 squares for 29.99 + shipping. That would be about $6 a yard.

I'm crazy for 4-patch or 9-patch scrappy quilts. You could alternate with off white.

You could make pinwheels. Take two squares, place right sides together. Stitch a 1/4 seam on all four sides, cut the square diagonally once for corner to corner. And then again a second time from corner to corner. You now have the makings for pinwheels. Match up a sold with a print square for a more controlled look or just make it really scrappy.

    Hope that helps.

They're good to make half sq. triangles, then there's no end to what you can do! flying geese, pinwheels, broken dishes, or whole as 3d bow ties, 9 patch, or a Boxy Moxie quilt - http://www.blockcentral.com/qp-boxymoxie.shtml

I've accumulated lots of 4" squares over the years, and finally this year I'm cutting them into 2" squares and using them in a hand-pieced postage stamp quilt.

Let me know if you decide to sell, I'd be interested in taking a look!
