Don't use it on a ruler. Nasty stuff to get off. I purchased a grip handle and it is the best way to keep the ruler from slipping.

Not sure whether you're referring to rulers used to cut fabric or rulers used to quilt.

I use basting spray on the back of my rulers for cutting fabric. It works well for me. When you first spray the ruler, it is too tacky, so take a scrap and rub some of the basting spray off. Then it works fine.

Eventually, the spray basting becomes used up. Then you clean the ruler, and re-apply the basting spray.

My cutting is much better since I sprayed the ruler.

The grip dots don't work well at all. Haven't tried invisigrip.

I made my own little grippers by borrowing 1 sheet of sticky back150 grit sand paper, measured 4.5 x 4.5 (for a palm sander). I cut it in small strips to fit between the marking on my rulers. I added the strips where I used the rulers the most. They are easy to remove if I have to and very inexpensive. I have 6 rulers done and used less than half of the sheet. I think the whole package cost my husband about 4 to 5 dollars and had 4 sheets. They may not be pretty but I am the only one that sees the red spots, and I don't mind as long as it works is my motto.

If you purchase, buy at least 2 packages because you are going to want them on every ruler you own (and the June Tailor Shape Cut mat, if you have one). Here is a link to the site that sells the grip strips:

I agree with Prism99. It is the only way I sandwich quilts together. In fact, I have come to rely on its superb performance so much, that I do not pin. (maybe I should, but do not). With the cost factor of it, I only use it on this, I worry it would just mess up the back of my rulers.

I use 505 to baste my sandwich. I wouldn't use on a ruler as it would leave a sticky residue o. My fabric as I cut. Small pieces of sandpaper glued on the ruler work better.

I would never use the basting spray on my rulers. I would be afraid it would become ruined by dust and lint sticking to it. Some one here recommended Invisigrip and it is wonderful!!! I bought one roll and so far have done my 6x24 ruler, tumbler template, big and little hexagon templates and 6x18 ruler with a nice amount left for more. I love it because my rulers/templates don't slip and I can still see through them clearly.
