Default 6 Inch Embroidered Squares... what to do?

I am piecing a couple of tops for my long arm quilter, who also designs embroidery for sale. When she works on the designs she makes many, many of the same subject (but different colors) until she gets it just right. Last week she brought about 70 butterflies embroidered onto muslin for me to use. I pieced the first top using the Patience Corners pattern, but would like something different for the second one. Alternating squares with the embroidered squares does not showcase her designs. Do you have another idea?

Large cathedral window blocks, set in hex-type frames, unique framing, set on point, etc.

How big are the butterfly blocks? If they are small enough, can you use butterfly fabric and put the butterfly blocks in the corners of a 9 patch (with an extra butterfly fabric in the center too) and then cut the 9P into a D9P? How about doing the butterflies in rows with the rectangles that make the chevron pattern?

you can make the embroideries the center of sawtooth star blocks (or friendship stars). Make the star points different colors to match the embroideries.

I've always liked snowball blocks to "showcase" interesting blocks.

I use a square in a square to showcase what I want.

Sorry, I don't have an answer for you but I would love to see a picture of the first quilt. Will you show us, please. Sounds kool. BrendaK

Here is what the first quilt looks like. Just heard from my friend this am, so will add a narrow border in the fabric. (Please excuse the photography!). Also showing a close up of one of the butterflies.
