I'm 65 and just started a few months ago. I've made 3 scrappy tops so far and currently working on kids charity quilts.
Just start with what feels comfortable to you. Personally I'm not interested in traditional or even contemporary quilting although I'm sure I will eventally make at least one.
I perfer creating my own designs and using some piecing along with applique.
I am really interested in portrait type quilting....where it tells a story of sort.

I started quilting after I retired, have made everything brom place mats and table runners to queen sized quilts. Recently I have started to do FMQ and need lots of practice but its fun to do. I am now 81 and love my quilting.

Oh yeah! ....I am 67 years old tomorrow, Aug 2nd...I started last year...have machine pieced two quilts and hand quilted 3 quilts and working on hand quilting the 4th. I love hand quilting..I use a 16 in round frame and lay the quilt on my couch and put the part that is being quilted on my lap and quilt away...watching tv or listening to audio books. This is all so relaxing to me...I love it.

I am 72. Have sewed ever since I can remember. Started sewing on my mother's treadle machine. However, I just started quilting when I was 67 - and now I sew on my Janome. Both my mother and mother-in-law's treadle machines are still in the family.
