I need some help. I am doing the spiral Christmas Tree Skirt. I am too cheap to go out and buy the ruler at this time.

I did download the free project from Hancocks with the template in it. I am hoping that my hubby can help me figure out the true 9 degree and then cut a plastic template.

My question is, in looking at the ruler at ebay, there are lines going up through the middle of it. Are those true one inch increments?

You all are so helpful here that I know someone will have this answer!

My 10 degree one from Phillips doesn't have vertical lines, just horizonal. Those are an inch apart.

The reason I ask, is the pattern says put the 12" inch line on such and such place of the fabric. I guess that means 12" from the bottom. Irishrose, I was clear as to how the lines went through the ruler. There are vertical and horizonal. I meant the horizonal so your answer helps.

I wish you luck with this. I made a Hopi Sun Quilt in the round using a 10 degree wedge. It didn't just take one ruler, it took THREE. I had to place two more long rulers along both sides of the wedge ruler to keep the cut true and the fabric stabilized.
This was made in a class at G Street Fabrics. We made large stripped pieces to cut these wedges out of on an angle. This left lots of waste. I am just an old "covers" quilter in love with straight stitching. I won't take this on again. But my DH loves this quilt!

Good Luck and I hope you enjoy this process more than I. Each to his own as the old lady said when she kissed the cow!

When I made a spiral - when it said 12 inch line I used the number 12 on the ruler. If the next cut was to be 11 and 1/4 I put it on the number 11 and 1/4 on the ruler. The horizontal lines being the used on the bottom of the fabric. It took a bit to get used to using the numbers for measurements
You should be able to find more instructions on the internet. Carol
