I bought a new to me Husqvarna Viking mega quilter with the grace frame earlier this year. I'm now just getting ready to start using it. It came with no leaders, so after much reading on here, made those and they are attached. Today I took the machine off the carriage to oil, thread and get familiar with it. I've discovered the darning plate is on it, not the standard sewing plate. I am unable to sew with it because with the darning plate on the feed dogs don't pull my fabric. I did not receive the standard plate with the set up. By reading the manual and searching online, it appears there is no feed dogs up/down feature like many machines have when you want to FMQ vs straight stitching. I understand the pressure dial and it's adjustment, but with the darning plate on and adjusting the presser foot dial to 3 as suggested in the manual, it still won't feed.
My question is this, is the darning plate thicker then the standard plate to allow even pressure on the fabric, but allow for FMQ or use on the carriage? In my research on the internet, that was the only explanation I could find, but wanted to ask on here. Any help will be greatly appreciated, thank you in advance.

Longarm quilting machines do not have feed dogs. The quilt is held in place on frame. The fabric is stationary and is not supposed to move. The operator (you) moves the longarm and that is how the quilting patterns are made.

I agree with UFO Galore. It sounds like this machine was converted to quilting on the frame exclusively by covering the feed dogs. If I'm not mistaken, this machine is like the Juki, Brother, Baby Lock, and some others, that are straight stitch only semi-industrial that some people use for FMQing but they can still be used for regular sewing. And yours might be able to do regular sewing if the feed dogs were uncovered. Just guessing.

I do not have this machine, however, mine is identical by another manufacturer. The darning foot should pop off. It is held in place with 2 small pins. The only alterations I can think of is if they drilled 2 holes in the plate and they laid it on top of the regular sewing plate. Does that make sense? Without a photo it sounds like the plates are stacked one on top of another. Either way if you have to buy replacement plates it can be done.

I have had a Mega Quilter for over 20 yrs and absolutely love it, wouldn’t give it up for anything! I have used it for both regular sewing and on my quilting frame. The darning plate is put over the feed dogs because you will be free motion quilting on the frame and do not want the dogs to grab. Please direct message me and I will try to help.

You didn't say rather you had the mega 9 or 18. But this machine is straight stitch only and comes with a regular plate. If the plate was changed it was probably done by the person that owned it. You can get a walking foot for it. Viking has a great walking foot. It does need oiling constantly though.

I just pulled out my mega quilter, there is a metal plate that raises the bed over the feed dogs. This plate is held on by a very strong magnet, I had to use a small screwdriver to lift it off. Once it is removed you should have access to the feed dogs. Hope this helps.

I have a Mega quilter on an Inspira frame. Love being able to quilt my own quilts. I do have the Quilters Cruise Control on it, my questions is: Is the Quilters Cruise control on a Pfaff Grand Quilter exactly the same as the one that fits Viking Mega quilter? I have an opportunity to buy one as a spare.

I think I need to replace the rubber O-rings on my Quilters Cruise Control on my Inspira frame. I ordered the #30 o-rings from myqbot.com but they are smaller than the originals. By smaller, I mean they are thinner. The size would work if the rubber was thicker. Does anyone know what size O-rings I need to purchase?

Can anyone tell me what the going for sale price is for this machine? I know someone interested in selling one and I know it is older. They have an older Grace frame with it with a stitch regulator. Don't know where else to ask!
