I prefer my scrappy quilts to be in blended colors but
I am very obviously in a tremendously small minority.

I agree with you TanyaL, I too prefer a more controlled scrappy quilt, if that is what you meant.

I cannot bring my self to just reach in a bag and sew whatever color strip is next, it has to be pleasing to my eye. But that is what makes quilting so very, very interesting, as many different quilters as there are, that is how many different quilts we are privileged to see.

That is a really nice looking top. I just did a version of Garden Path using strips for a Relay Quilt.

Actually, I may have used the wrong term in ignorance. My all time favorites are the ones that start in one corner with a light shade such as pink and end up in the opposite corner with a very dark burgandy, or start in the middle with the light or dark shade and end up on the border with the dark or light shade, but the quillt is totally all in the same color family just shading from dark to light. No contrast, just gradually blending from one shade to the next. That's my favorite scrappy quilt - no sashings. See, I told you I was in a minority. LOL!

No still not the minority Tanya....IMHO....I think what you may be describing is what I understand to be called Watercolor Quilts. I love them too!!!!! But two may still be a minority on this thread, but the Watercolor quilts are very, very popular and beautiful to my eye!

Oh, I didn't realize you made those quilts with scraps. And the only ones I have seen were made with almost postage size pieces of fabric, so I thought that when you made them with large pieces you called them by a different name - but by any name, they are my favorite way to use up a bunch of scraps. I really don't like the high contrast quilts banded by sashings. Thank goodness there's room for all kinds of taste.

Kim Brackett has a new book out "Scrap-Basket Sensations". This is her second book of 2 1/2" strips quilts. Probable find this on www.amazon.com then go to books. I am cutting out the Picnic quilt from this book right now and several others I want to try. When you find this book, Picnic quilt is on the front cover. Good luck.
