Achy hands and wrists while quilting?

There are compression gloves available for people with arthritis. I have some, and even though I don't have arthritis, and find that they help with pain and fatigue. I have have bad rotator cuffs (so not a lot of shoulder strength), and some permanent damage due to carpel tunnel syndrome. The gloves feel good, and whenever I have a "power surge" (hot flash), I figure I'm giving them a heat treatment as well. Lol!

I have had problems and tried all the above. Eventually I did my own ideas. I worked for 5mins then 10 etc increasing time and reducing rest time. At first I did 25 minutes. Etc. I did this last year after having a bone removed from wrist. I also had problem after working 2 hours solid on my long arm .you need to build up the time. Glasses of wine may also help.

Be careful. If there is pain, listen to it. I did not when I was stitching a queen Grandmother's Flower Garden and have done permanent damage to my thumb joints.
Not time to be stoic and quilt thru the pain.

My CT and arthritis is probably from knitting, sewing, doing macrame, and working as a bank teller for over 30 years. Computer use doesn't help, either. Depending on the size of the quilt, I work until I start getting sore, then stop for the day and do something else. The spirit is willing, but the hands are weak!

Take frequent breaks, do hand exercises, stop if you are really hurting. Check with your doctor if you continue to have problems. I have osteoarthritis, have had surgery on one hand, and pray I never have to have surgery on my other hand.
