    Default add a quarter ruler

I need a 10 1/4 inch square. I have a 10 inch and wondering if anyone has used the add a quarter ruler. They are not expensive so not a big loss if I don't like it but won't buy it if you all advise it isn't worth it. My eyes are getting bad and most rulers are hard for me to see the lines so thought this would be perfect.

    Thanks,
    Evelyn

What a great idea! I had never thought of doing that. I just pulled out my Add-A-Quarter ruler and laid it on a different ruler, and it worked great! I will remember this and use it in the future when I can. Thank you for your great idea. And, yes, it works just fine.

I'm not sure what you are trying to do, but i love that little ruler for paper piecing and use it all the time. Definitely get the longer one for your purpose.

I'm not sure how you can use it with a regular ruler to add the 1/4". The ruler itself is wider than 1/4" and has a pretty subtle lip that will butt up against a folded piece of paper.

I use my add a quarter ruler all the time for paper piecing and love it! If you place the lip against your ruler it will add the quarter, however it will not reach the fabric, which may or may not effect cutting. I would line my fabric up on the lines of my cutting mat, then line my ruler up so the 3/4" mark lines up on the second inch line, which would put the edge at the 10 1/4" place.

I tried this with my add a quarter ruler. Worked great to add 1/4" to my ruler edge. I had no problem cutting the fabric. Great idea!

The ruler is for paper piecing and is not meant to add length to your regular ruler. If you do attempt to use it, don't cut against it, put it on the other side of your square ruler.

How do you use it for paper piecing and not cut against it?

I use mine to make diagonal lines when making joins in binding. I put sandpaper dots on under side to keep it from slipping. I just started using it this way, because I just thought to use it. Works really well for the smaller areas I need.
