    Default Added HotFix Crystals anyone?

We had a recent speaker at Guild that had added crystals to her quilt. It looked wonderful . Does anyone have experience with them? I'm thinking of putting them on a large wall hanging. Do you end up with crystals all over the place?

    Yes, they are fun!

I just added some to make some beach sand sparkle. I don't have pictures right now as it in a Fat Quarter Challenge at our LQS.

There are tools to help get them right in place. The crystals come in little containers. Work over a piece of white paper and slide the run away ones into it when done.

There is also a system to add them using the scan*ncut machines.

I plan on taking a class on the technique the next time it is offered.

I’ve added them to a few quilts, I like them. The ones on my granddaughter’s quilt have held up to the occasional laundering over the past 12 years. I have the ( Crystal Fix Iron) which is a wand that picks up the crystal, heats them to the proper- glue melt setting and allows you to place them exactly where you want them. I bought it and my first container of crystals about 14 years ago.

Yes, I have the hot fix gun for the crystals. It is a lot of fun, and adds sparkle where you want it. The crystals I bought came in different sizes. Crystals are measured in mm(millimeters). You can get them as tiny as 2mm or as large as 8 and 10mm, maybe even larger too. I bought the hot fix gun at Hobby Lobby with the crystals. The gun has different size tips that you put on for the different size crystal you are using. Have fun and be creative.

Several years ago I saw Sharon Schamber's quilt Scarlet Serenade at the Spring Paducah show, and spoke to her about it. She had colored Swarovski crystals all over the back of the quilt, with the colors matching the colors of the pieces on the front of the quilt, to the tune of $9,000 worth of crystals. She won two major awards at Paducah that year with that quilt and another one, the first time anyone had done that there.

Wow, to the back? I don't think I'll invest that much. Thanks for the mention, Quiltah Mama of HL. I didn't think of them a great way to test it with a coupon. I finally remembered the speaker it was Jacqueline de Jonge.

I did this tree skirt two Christmas' ago for a friend. It turned out well and I just texted and asked her if any had fallen off and she said that she didn't think so.

I've not put them on a quilt yet, but did put them on a holiday skirt made with quilt blocks.

I've added crystals to one wallhanging so far and a couple throw pillows using the same kitty embroidery designs. They won't be washed as often as other type quilts so thought it safe enough. I add them while working on my cutting table so if I drop one, hopefully it will be on the table and not on the floor. So far so good.
