Default adding to a baby blanket

I have a friend who has a small baby blanket she got through project linus when her daughter was born and in the NICU. She wants to build around it so that it's big enough for her daughter to use on her bed. Any ideas on the best way to do this?

It would be good to see the original to be able to think about how to add to it.

I think that the easiest way to make it larger would be to add QAYG borders to it. If it is bound, trim off the binding; if it is pillowcased, trim off the outside edge. There is a YouTube showing a QAYG method where you use strips that will look like sashing (or in this case, the first border) to join the body of the quilt to the borders.
