Default Adding machine tape - thermal

I finally found some adding machine tape to sew scraps on but it is thermal paper...is that OK or will it hurt the fabric?

Thermal paper is coated with chemicals and dye. When heat is applied, the dye reacts to the chemicals causing the dye to change color. I'm guessing here, but I would worry that pressing the piece might cause enough heat to activate the dye, and that could transfer to the fabric. I would test it on several scraps before using it for a project.

I tried regular adding machine paper but it didn’t tear away well. I would try a sample of the thermal tape and as long as you didn’t iron it, it would be okay.

I agree that the heat of the iron probably would activate the thermal feature and turn the tape dark. I'd avoid using it because I don't want the chemicals on my skin, let alone in my quilt.

I did this once. And it was not easy to get the paper out

Watson, this doesn't answer your question but....

I know this is going to sound goofy but we use a toilet paper that is individually wrapped in tissue paper. I haven't tried it yet but have been saving the wrappers to try. It's thin & I think it would tear off very easily.
