Default Adding Ribbons or Buttons to a Quilt

When adding things to a small quilt, such as ribbon or buttons, do you do it before or after it is quilted?

I think the long armers prefer that type of embellishment be added after the quilting.

I embellish many small quilts, and pretty much always add those finishing touches after quilting.

Embellishments are generally added After quilting, so you do not have to worry about hitting anything while quilting.

I agree with all the above. There is nothing worse than hitting a button when quilting. You may want to pin the ribbon from the back so it can be removed from the quilt when and if it ever needs washing. Just an after thought. Good Luck !!

For a hand quilted quilt, I've added beads and embroidery to the top + batting, and then added the backing, and quilted. It did make getting it in the hoop for quilting a bit more challenging, but I wouldn't have wanted that stitching showing on the back. I agree that you wouldn't want buttons, etc. in the way when machine quilting.

I added buttons to a small Christmas wall hanging after it was all quilted and bound.
