Advantages of Curved Embroidery Scisoors?
There’s a pair of Gingher 4” curved embroidery scissors, new in box, for $10 near me. What, if any, are the uses and advantages of the curved ? I have a pair of straight Karen Kay Buckley emb scissors that are super sharp and do well for small applique. I don’t do embroidery yet.

Applique fabric is outline stitched onto a backing - in the hoop in embroidery machines - and the curved scissors are supposed to make trimming applique fabrics easier. I never bought any so can't say if it is better or not.

Gay is correct. I have a couple of pairs in different sizes and they do make trimming around in the hoop applique much easier than the straight scissors. With the little curve at the tip, they don't "bite" into the bottom fabric, just snip along the applique.
I don't use them in any other way so can't say if they would be helpful to a non machine embroiderer. According to a google search, the 4 inch size runs anywhere from $20 to $25, so $10 sounds like a good deal to me.
I would buy them.

Hey Zozee, I use my curved embroidery scissors all the time when I’m quilting. The curved tips and the curved shank make it easy to snip threads close to the quilt without accidentally cutting the fabric. My pair lives on my Sweet Sixteen. I’d grab those Ginghers in a heartbeat if I had the chance.

I used curved scissors when working at my longarm for snipping threads as you can get extremely close. I actually don't "snip" but rather draw the thread against the scissor blades. Snipping is ok but I once got too close and caused damage so now I just "razor" cut with the scissors. Works for me.

I have used curved embroidery scissors most of my life since my first embroidery work that I did when I was around 5 yrs old. My mother told me that the proper tools for the job make the workmanship all the better. I don't know any other way. As far as the Ginghers' go, I would grab them up in a heart beat.

My thought exactly! I suppose that until you use them you won't understand the difference. I love mine and also feel the right tool for the right job is essential. That sounds like a great price for Gingers.
