Advice on border would be much appreciated
Hi, I wonder if anyone would be kind enough to give an opinion on how to best use the border fabric on this quilt top? I think I prefer the unbroken border however is it okay to cut the fabric along its length? There are four repeats of the border so I think there's plenty of it to go all around. This will be a full king when its finished. I ran out of fabric so just getting down to finishing off the bands today before getting stuck into the border. Thank you

lOF is fine. If you want more info on grain and cutting there is a good thread, a few pages in at this moment. It is called 'first cut - LOF instead of WOF'. OP 9/7/13. Beautiful use of this gorgeous panel. You may want a calming border as your final border and the brighter blue for binding.

Thank you ladies. I am such an idiot! I went to make the missing band of blocks to discover I ordered fairy frost grape instead of blackberry! Such carelessness. The fabric won't waste but I am so annoyed with myself!

A lot of quilters prefer to cut along the length so their borders have no joins. Take a deep breath - although I don't do it myself - some quilters tear their fabric instead of cutting it! I'd be too scared the pattern was 'off' to do it myself.
Also, if you mitre the border, you'll get a nice finish on a big print.

Hard for me to visualize because of two things. I don't know where the top fits on a king bed. And, I don't know if the quilt is going all the way to the floor. With that in mind, I'd start at the floor with a fairy frost blue that matches one of the blues in the border as the binding. Next up would be the wide border that would act like a bed skirt. From that point to the quilt top edge is where you would want a break. Here you could again use fairy frost maybe the same one. Lots of ideas. I love to play these out on a design board, helps alot.
