My advice on the machine is to make sure your dealer is someone you feel comfortable turning to if you have a problem. Mine basically shoved the box in my arms and showed me the door. Sapphire owners with responsible dealers seem have a better experience!

There's also a Yahoo group for Viking Sapphire owners that is a great resource, even if you only read the old posts. They are enthusiastic about loving their machines.

    Good luck with your decision.
I agree with your statement Hinterland...However I am far to playfully obnoxious to be ignored...and...and I bring cookies to suck up lool

Now if I can only find this yohoo group>>>>>>
I am also c/p the conerns you raised to take with me tomorrow

I have a sapphire 875quilt and it is wonderful. I can't sing it's praises enough. The thing I really love is the new walking foot they have that has snap on feet for various things. They have a 1/4 " guide that was so great when putting on my binding today, also a stitch in the ditch foot, an embroidery foot and a regular foot all of which snap on the bottom of the walking foot. I say go for it, you won't be sorry.

I have the Sapphire 830 model (about 1-1/2 years old). I love it! I just recently got the new walking foot and am so glad I did. The snap in stitch in the ditch foot is great! I lucked out and got the feet for 40% off. I have not had any tension issues with mine.

I think a lot of the issues with the Sapphires are really user error due to lack of training. It is different, especially if you are coming from a standard machine rather than a computerized machine. Lots of automatic settings that take some getting used to. I'd buy it again. If you are seriously interested, ask if they will throw in the walking foot on the deal (or give you a great discount - it's regular retail is over $100). The stitch in the ditch foot is separate. About $25, but is snap on, so you'd need the new walking foot to use it.

    Good luck!

yes that is probably it, you can get an embroidery, 1/4 ", stitch in the ditch and regular feet that snap onto the bottom of the walking foot. I don't know if it will fit other machines tho

I have the 870 and love it. I had horrible problems with it, until I stopped using cheap poly thread. Since then it's been a dream. Oh, and I paud $2200 for it, on sale, at the LQS.

I also own a Viking Sapphire 875Q - never thought I would own something like that - Hubby talked me into it - I was nervous because I had never used a computerized machine. Wow, was I surprised - I love it and cannot be without it - I love the machine and I have a great Dealer too - that is important if you have questions or problems. Good luck.

I absolutely love my Sapphire 870. I bought it used, so I have no idea how old it really is. I have had no problems with it at all. I love the 10" throat, the automatic presser foot,(I tried sewing on another machine recently and forgot to lower the presser foot. I've been spoiled.)and all of the other bells and whistles that are part of the machine. I would buy another.
