Default Advice needed on baby quilt sizing

Hello, I would appreciate some advice on the efficient use of batting. I have a polar blanket that is 130cm wide and 170cm long. I was wondering if I could cut it in half (thus obtaining two 130x85cm pieces) and make two baby quilts. Aren't they going to be too small? What other use would you suggest? I am not interested in making small things like pot holders, though...

Those measurements will make a small baby quilt- not too small though. Good for a new baby. In U.S. inches they would be about 51" X 31". You could cut off some of the length and add it to the width to make it a bit wider to wrap baby if you want. I'm not really sure what you mean by batting and polar blanket...are you planning to use the polar blanket as a batting in a quilt? If that is the case I would make it wider since the batting needs to be a bit larger than the quilt to allow for the quilting.

I would consider 31 inches x 51 inches to long and narrow. Either widen it to 38-45 inches x 50 in. or trim some off to 31x40. Still 31 inches is a bit narrow and I think it will limit what the quilt can be used for or how long the baby will be able to use it.

i agree. we just did some project linus quilts with those dimensions and I cut mine down to 48", but still to small for a growing baby.
