Was wondering...after I have used 505 to baste my quilt and then I cut the extra material off to sew the border...I want to save the extra material to use in a scrappy quilt. I want to wash the scraps to get the 505 out to be able to cut and piece the next quilt. Do I need to hand wash these pieces or is there a way to wash in the machine where I don't have a big tangle of threads from all the cut edges?

May be one of those mesh bag used for washing delicate things.

You could accordion fold your pieces, then use a safety pin to keep the fold. Use a mesh garment bag to keep them together. Wash away!

I would use a mesh bag, but don't agitate. Just swish in a tub of warm water with a bit of detergent. I would then air dry it.

i tried washing charms in a bag and it didn't help much, i would go with hand washing, shouldn't need much more than a good soak in warm soapy water

I recently washed a 40x40 piece of batting that had residual 505 spray on it. I put it in the washer with a towel on delicate, and dried it in the dryer until about 85% dry. Then laid it over chairs in my sewing room to finish drying. It worked fine. For fabric pieces, I would either do by hand or on delicate in the washer for like only 2 minutes.

I just did this very thing. I put the pieces in several mesh bags. The fraying was not bad. They were badly wrinkled.
