    Default Air soluble fabric pen

Have you successfully used a fabric pen that fades away on its own ? I’ve been looking online and some say “erasable” or “water soluble” but self fading would be my choice. I made a lavender table runner and I wish to free motion quilt however I’m learning so I need lines to follow. Thanks for recommendations.

If you use an air soluble pen be prepared to work on it pretty quickly or don't mark too much at once. Depending on the humidity in your house it can disappear before you want it to.

Air erasable pen work fine but the marks will disappear in about 12 hours. I use it for placement marks or sew lines.

I took a longarm class recently at Road to California, and the instructor told us that the purple air soluble pens have the same ingredient as the blue water soluble pens, just less of it. The moisture in the air does make the purple marks go away, sometimes too quickly.

I can read the package, but nice to hear from those who have had the experience. Many thanks for your input.

I would definitely use the ones designed specifically for quilters. (Read: do not use Frixxion.)

The Dritz Mark-B-Gone wash away pens or the Sewline Aqua Erasers are pretty good.

They do fade quickly. When I was hand quilting and using the purple pen to mark my fabric, I could only mark as far as I could quilt in one day.

Why don't you use the washable crayola markers--they totally wash out and you don't have to finish your project in a hurry. I even use the washable markers from the "Everything's a Dollar" store--the pack costs $1 and I've had great success with them. I am now drawing designs on a lap quilt for FMQ them...I have a heavy schedule this week, so it will be a few days before I can actually start the sewing.

The air soluble ones only last about 24 hours or less. I use the blue ones that are water soluble. They work great.

I use Crayon Ultra Washable Markers when I mark a quilt top. The marks stay until you wash the quilt. I've never had a problem with them. I stick with Crayola brand, that brand doesn't want a lot of angry moms when kids clothing is ruined by washable markers.
