I agree with Holice about maintaining the 1/4" seam to the very end of the stitiching. It's easy to "veer off" especially when chain piecing and reaching for the next block. All tips and info given should also be very helpful. Good luck!

i also find that when sewing points that after carefully lining up the two layers of fabric I will put the needle (by hand) just inside the edge of the two layers. this holds the layers in place and is less likely to cause a shift when starting sewing. Chain piecing points is the culprit here as it tends to shift the layers. So have to be careful starting and ending the seam on pieces with points.
