I'm having the same problem and have been quilting for a long time and just realized you really have to be carefull with the 1/4" seam.I do a scant less than that and it seems to help me.......

I agree with Holice about maintaining the 1/4" seam to the very end of the stitiching. It's easy to "veer off" especially when chain piecing and reaching for the next block. All tips and info given should also be very helpful. Good luck!

What helps me get sharp points is to move the seam just a thread or two into the seam allowances when I come upon the star point. It makes a great difference and allows the point to "show".

Without a picture it's hard to say, but might be case of needing "scant" quarter inch seams.

Draw a line for the seam allowance, turn the piece so that the point fabric is on top. You should be able to sew correctly the point area because it is on top!

"quilt inspector". So that's what they're doing. I have 4 and they make sure someone is always on shift!

i also find that when sewing points that after carefully lining up the two layers of fabric I will put the needle (by hand) just inside the edge of the two layers. this holds the layers in place and is less likely to cause a shift when starting sewing. Chain piecing points is the culprit here as it tends to shift the layers. So have to be careful starting and ending the seam on pieces with points.

I know what you are talking about!!! That is one of my problems too. But, if I use the scant 1/4, then it
usually turns out okay.
