    that is the way i do it and was taught that way , i will go anyway that it is comfortable sometimes i will go sideway as long as it works and looks good

    Free Motion Quilting. The feed dogs get dropped therefore the only way the fabric moves is when the operator (you) move it, and if you move it too fast or too far you will get lots of loops and stuff on the back side you absolutely do not want. I suggest you practice until you find your rhythm.

    I turn my machine sideways and then quilt towards me for a section, then away, then towards me, then away. The sideways makes it easier to see what all is going on :)

    The last time I did FMQ, I wondered about moving the fabric from the back to the front, but it hurt my brain to analyze it while I was quilting! Now that I'm away from the machine and can think about it, it seems like a great idea!
    Isn't it great how we can learn from each other, as long as we're not afraid to say something?
