Am I the only person in the world that can't sew a straight line???

I have been teaching my Grandaughter. and she was having the sme problem.I told her to keep her eyes on the edge of the foot that is the 1/4 line and not the needle the needle is not going to move the the material will this seemed to help her. hope this works for you.

Here are a few tips that might help sewing a straight seam.
Slow down--it's not a race. Slower means more accurate seams.
Watch the edge of the fabric in relationship to the edge of the fabric. Do not watch the needle, which I used to do, it takes care of itself going up and down in the same spot.
Best of luck, I used to sew wobbly seams also and these two tips helped me.

I have found that if I look at the needle I don't sew straight. I keep my eye sort of fixed on the point where the fabric enters the foot. Even a little before that and have the needle in my peripheral vision. If you look at the needle it's too late to nudge the fabric a bit. It has helped me especially with SID. And, also, slow down. And I still sew some crooked seams but not as many. I think I learned this from a Holice video.

I can't sew a straight line on any of the machines that I have or by hand either. That's one of the reasons that I can't make "perfect" quilts. But all my imperfect quilts are loved by the ones that have received them and I have a long list of relatives that would really like one, too. So don't worry about straight perfect lines, just do your best and whoever gets your quilts will adore them, I'm quite sure.

It took a while to figure it out but my problem is my eyes wander. Im trying to look at more than the sewing line. That is when my line gets crooked. I do fine at first and then my mind says look at this to be sure the line is straight and sure enough it goes crooked.
