Thank you to those that responded to my post about using the walking foot for fancy stitches. I was amazed at the number of replies. You are all the best. If anyone has a question or needs info about quilting, this is the go-to place.

I tried using the walking foot for the decorative stitches and it works for all of them. HURRAH!! I always thought that I could do only straight stitch with it. This opens up a whole new play area for me. Yesterday, I quilted 9 rows of a top with the feather stitch (my favorite stitch) and would have done the whole top but ran short of the thread I was using. Today, I'll work on another top, using white thread and maybe use another stitch. I'm so excited!!

    Thank you all soooo much.

I like the feather stitch, too. Since my SID isn't really in the ditch, the feathers make it look like the stitches are supposed to show.

Yes, Yes, Yes.....this is a fabulous place to come and expand our minds and learn things that were in our face but for whatever reason we didn't realize or didn't think possible.

I love my walking foot for quilting, but it also has other uses. My sister needed a pair of jeans hemmed, and I was in a hurry and figured I would leave that foot on. It worked wonderful, went through all the thicknesses of the denim like butter, no strain on the machine and didn't break the needle. I have also used it to hem regular slacks, and I don't get that extra little bit fabric bunched up or puckers at the end.

    Hi there.

The feather stitch is one of the fancy stitches that you can do on many machines. Scroll halfway down the page in the link below and you'll see what it looks like.
