Another batting question...
#1
I was having problems trying to quilt a quilt for my husband. I keep getting skipped stitches and breaking thread. I asked my yahoo group their thoughts on what I could do differently (I have a Sapphire 870) and the one light bulb moment was that it could be my batting. I'm using a thicker poly batting and I really think this is my problem. So what is your favorite batting? Is there a brand that you definitely stay away from?

When was the last time you changed your needle? They can develop "burrs" on the tips. Breaking threads for no apparent reason is a major indicator that your needle needs to be replaced; not your batting. When you do change it, run the tip of the old one over your index finger. If it catches in any form om your skin, then it is now suitable for hanging up light weight pictures, but not for quilting.

I don't think it's your batting. I did a baby quilt last with extra high loft poly batting and it worked fine. If you have already changed needle and re-threaded try using dental floss to polish the tension disks. This really helps one of my machines.
