I have the Babylock Ellure Plus. It is a combo unit and I love it. I paid $1500. about 2 years ago. It has 4 different size hoops and does a beautiful job embroidering. You can download designs from the internet for free and they turn out great. Babylock is the sister to the Brother. I have heard great things about the Brother though.

I bought a brother pacesetter, it does both sewing and embroidery. I use it only for embroidery and it is a work horse in that area, it came with lots of feet that I don't have on my other machine but still only use it for embroidery. I use it to make all my quilt labels and to do towels for gifts and all my other designs. It was well worth the money and cheeper then most of the others.

I am new at embroidery having purchased a Janome 350E a few months ago. I already have two other machines so just wanted a stand alone. The price of the machine is only the beginning, then you need thread, stabilizer, more designs, and software, that all adds up to more than one realizes in the beginning. Love my Janome though, glad I got it. Does a great job, just wish for one size larger hoop.

I also have a Brother and 2 Janome's so if I need one to go to the doctor. The Brother is an embroidery machine and like MzMcKee use it only for embroidery. The Janome machines are for the hard work.

I have a Janome that does both. Does a very nice job of embrodiery for what I have done. Nothing is cheap though about owning an embrodiery machine,as someone said earlier as I found out after the fact. Still I am happy to have it.
