How high does a thread count need to be for making a good quilt? Can it be too high? I am wanting to do some dyeing and use that fabric in quilt making.

This fabric is 60 count (threads per inch). Is that fine enough?

This one is 133 X 72 thread count. Is that enough better to be worth the extra 2 bucks a yard? It is still only about $6/yd. for the wider fabric.

I didn't take time to look at the ones you're looking at but they sell a PFD fabric that is very nice (prepared for dyeing) I use it often, it's also good for printing on (still has to be treated with . well I had a brain freeze, the chemical used to set the print..OH Bubble Jet Set)

Quilt shop quality fabric have a minimum thread count of 60 vertical threads by 60 horizontal threads per inch of fabric. Often the thread count is much higher. Higher thread counts mean a tighter weave, and that makes the fabric feel silkier, wear longer, and show a sharper image when printed. Inexpensive fabrics with lower thread counts feel coarser, don’t print as well, and wear out faster than higher-quality fabrics.
