I was so excited to find all the boxes filled with cut fabric and cardboard patterns. One inch squares and 2 inch squares, 5 shoe boxes full and spilled out into the big box. Should I sew into tops ? I haven't any idea if that would destroy the history or value. I don't care about the value I wouldn't sell the tops. But any ideas?

It all depends on the period it is from. Antique means 100 years old - vintage is everything else that isn't new....Etsy says it is older than 20 years...to me it needs to be pre 1970. Some of the most popular is depression years 1930-40s.
Got any pictures? Maybe someone can date it. Personally, I would make it into something, but if you don't care for it then I would sell it as is.

If you are not sure the fabric will hold up, you could back it with very thin interfacing. Fabric usually gets "bad" because it is washed a lot and exposed to air. If they were in shoe boxes, they were not exposed. Because I am not concerned with "value", I have old, very old and new fabric all together. Your batting and backing and maybe binding will be new so value is not there. I would have been sewing by now! LOL
