Thank you for all of your ideas. I really had no idea and "believed" that LAQ's only did the all over quilting and wouldn't do the "custom" stuff. I also falsely believed they would not do Minkie. I actually went into the shop yesterday to ask about it. They said they would do Minkie but warned me that fuzzy stuff comes through onto the top and so you would need your thread to match the Minkie and recommended that I use flannel instead. I was also told to come back on Sunday, as that's when the woman who does the "free hand" will be in and I can speak with her to see what she can/will do for me. I really wish I knew how to do more of the "quilting" part, SITD is the only quilting I've ever done and would be afraid to start practicing on this one. Thanks again.

I purchased the pattern at the MN Quilt Show last summer. For those of you interested in getting the pattern -
It is called "Snapdragon" and it's by BJ's Designs & Patterns.

I understand being hesitant on trying custom quilting yourself! One comment made by your LQS about minky coming through to the other side isn't accurate. I've made several quilts with minky and have never had such a problem. Also, as I mentioned, I used wool batting on the latest quilt and have used W&N in other quilts with minky. The backing you choose will make a difference in the feel of the quilt....minky being the softest touch and flannel being a warm feel. Flannel would need a few pre-washings where minky doesn't call for prewashing. Loose minky fuzz can be minimized by keeping a lint roller nearby and keeping the minky 'inside out' when possible. The 'fur' of the minky completely covers any thread color choice so that's not an issue for the minky side either. You might check with another LAQ'er to verify what I've said, but that's been my experience.

In the ditch for borders and x's in the checkerboard pieces too. Rays...straight lines going out from the sun.

Okay . . . this is THE cutest quilt! Could you tell me how I can get a copy! I have grandchildren, and this would be perfect! My email is [email protected]. I appreciate whatever you can send me. Thanks in advance!

I would do an outline of all the appliques, wavy lines for fabric plus flowers or leaves on the grass, it is a very cute quilt!
