So where do you go from here? Do you have enough responses to just ask the Administrator to create a new section?

It is just too time consuming trying to search for tips, ideas, as you get lost with all of the threads.............

    two questions:

    (1) are you aware that EQ has online forums at their website where users help each other make the most of the software?

    http://doyoueq.com/phpBB3/index.php

    (2) has anyone talked to Admin about this first, before getting votes?

    Gayle,

What embroidery machine do you have? I purchased my first Viking in Dec 2006 and have taken several classes @ the local dealer.........they also have projects on line..............downloading the designs, saving to either your computer or a USB stick is not hard..........several on this blog would love to help you...........

Did not mean to step on toes..........am well aware of the EQ 6 site..........but there are frequently questions on machine embroidery too...........and the responses from other USERS is often better than responses you get from the actual manufacturer.............they don't really use the items like we do...............

I just believe that adding a separate topic that would include machine embroidery (and we quilters use a lot of that) that might include things like EQ 6 is a good idea.

    THANKS PATRICE!!

Amma asked, before I posted this thread, Patrice, then she suggested that I did post this, to see if there was`likely to be any interest.
We have since had an answer, and he isn't all that enthusiastic, because he is working on another idea, that might be of some use to help people find posts in different places. I will leave it up to him to tell everyone the details when he is ready. Yes, we are aware there is an EQ forum, but if there had been enough interest, and Admin was keen, we wouldn't have to go off the board. As it is, we can still help each other without doing that. For instance, I just found out how to send my designs to others, either with the EQ themselves, or pics of one of my designs for those who don't have the programme. Someone else recently found out that it is possible to 'paste' block designs into borders - which might be a help for all those IRR people.

I sent admin a PM about this on Friday, and did not receive his reply until this morning.
We did not mean to step on Admin's toes with this post, just curious as to whether there was an interest in this subject now or for in the future.

Also the replies are informative as to the possibility of future tutorials or maybe even a chat class(es)

    Subject: A Question

    Hi Admin!!!

I have a question for you...
There are quite a few of us on the board that own EQ programs.
We have been haphazardly asking questions to each other and such about the program.
Is there any way that we could have a place dedicated to these questions and solutions?

Many people keep posting questions about this program in the Main section...curious about it's functions, is it worth the money, etc.. and that could be a place to go for more info on it...

Rhonda, LaceLady and I have been doing some discussions on this just today and last night... it came to us that there are many others who have a lot to contribute or that what we are discussing could be helpful to them. But a regular thread would be hard to follow and would turn into 20 pages in no time...

Another thought is this...by having EQ appear in search engines, regarding our questions/solutions/EQ related topics...would that draw more hits to the board and maybe draw in more members because of this?

I know that I could do this on EQ's site, or on another board, but I am not really interested in going that route, nor I am sure are other board members...we kinda like it right here

Another avenue also is machine embroidery...it is being used in quilting more and more and many of us board members also own and use these machines. It would also be a place that would generate a lot of interest/questions/solutions that we all encounter.

    Thank you for reading this

and I sent a second PM following this one:

Could longarmers also be added in??? That is another area more members are getting into....

    Subject: Re:A Question

From the technical point of view, adding more sections is not a problem.

But it decreases forum usability, so it's always a tough decision.

While I agree that EQ is a very popular software package that many people use, I think at this point adding more sections would do more harm than good.

If we add EQ section, then it would also make sense to create sections for other well-known brands and products.

Imagine if we had separate sections for Bernina, Juki, and so on.

It would make it harder to navigate, and people would probably post in the wrong section anyway. Not to mention that with such setup, a person who wants to catch up on all quilt-related threads would have to check several categories, as opposed to just checking Main. This is what worries me the most when considering new sections.

I also received you suggestion about a section for longarm quilters. I'll check past threads to see if there is enough content and discussions for a new section.

Also, I'm working on a upgrade for the message board software. It's a long-term goal, but one of the features would actually address what you described. I want to add a tagging mechanism.

So that the author of a thread can "tag" the post with keywords like "EQ" or "Bernina" and anybody who wants to catch up on all posts that deal with, say EQ, would be able to do so simply by clicking the EQ tag.

I think that would be a good solution, so please hang in there.

    Okay.... it's me again.... :D :D :D
So for now, anyone wishing to share info in these areas, maybe work up a tutorial?? Or a chat class?? Other suggestions??
