I am making lap quilts for my kids so the quilts are not huge. They are the right size for my kids to use to snuggle up with while they watch TV, read a book etc. When I sit and watch TV , usually in a reclined position, and cover up with a blanket my feet get cold from underneath. I was thinking it would be a great idea to have a little pocket at the bottom of the quilt, on the back side, to slide my feet into so that the quilt stays on my legs/feet and my feet stay warm.

Anyone ever done this before? I'm thinking that I need to make the pocket and sew it into the binding. I'd love to hear from anyone who as done it. Picture would be a awesome ;-)

OK so I guess you were NOT part of the "quillows" rage back in the 1980's??? This was a quilt that folded up into its own little pocket to become a pillow on the couch when not in use & the "pocket " was used to put your feet in to keep them warm! pm me & I might be able to send specific directions....just not right this minute, I'm at work!

I have seen a pattern for one, it was under Elder Care. They posted pattern for people in wheel chairs, they have the same problem.

No ! I'd never heard of Quillows before. Just googled it and it is perfect! I don't think my kids will use it as a pillow, but you never know. Certainly handles a storage issue! Just fold it up. I will try this. Seems like you just make a pocket 1/3 of the width of the entire quilt and sew it down. I will put my label on this pocket ! Can't wait to try it tonight. Will have to see where the sewing lines line up though. Don't want stitch lines coming through the top that will look funny...

No, but what a clever idea. My feet are always cold and usually bare!

Please post some pics to show us the foot-warmer on the lap quilts after you finish them - fun idea!

    It's a great idea.

I made a bunch of "Snuggies" - you know those fleece blankets with sleeves? But, I sewed the lower edges together for about a foot at the bottom and across the hems horizontally, so the snuggie actually makes a "bag.

Everyone likes them better with the automatic "tuck in" for the feet. :)
