I love the idea of adding crystals, Lori! This quilt would look beautiful with them. I need to start thinking along those lines too.
I was given BOXES of crystals, beads, etc. by a wonderful woman in my church who is 'retiring' from beading. A fellow quilter in our guild, a talented beader, will teach our church quilters how to begin beading with a 3 hour class. Looking forward to learning how. I'd like to start making artsy wall hangings, beaded purses, vests, Christmas decor or ??? as new possibilities.

I had the same problem and got responses when I asked the question. I found the answer. especially the advice on how to make the resolution smaller in iPhoto. do a search on 'posting pictures on my mac' and you will see my post half way down the page. ( I can't figure out how to post the link) Feffertim.

Appliqué gold tone 1/4 circle "suns" in the white setting triangles?

The more I look at this quilt, the more peaceful it seems. It's very earthy in design and what I suggest, is in only the middle top and middle bottom white triangles, and in the first large triangle on the left and the second large triangle on the right, use some DMC floss or regular quilting thread and stitch or quilt an outline of the trees, alternating each using a lighter green and lighter brown.

Another thing you could do if you *want* the color, is to make a fabric star, gold or red, and place it atop the two middle trees, vertically.

My first thought was a small bear too, but I picture him in the center triangle on the bottom.

Thank you all for your responses. Now I feel much better about the quilt. Lots of ideas running around in my head right now. Leaning toward appliquéd bears and then maybe something woodsy in quilting, not too much though. I have just started doing DMQ and not much beyond meandering. LOL Do not want the expense of a long arm quilter either, at least not at the present time. (We are having a house built and will be moving to another part of the state in July) We shall see what happens. You are all just the greatest!

I think it looks fine.. But in retrospect, if you wanted more interest, you could've made the trees from different greens, ie a combination of greens in the same tree. But, I think it looks very calming and woodsy just the way it is.

I have a pattern which is perfect for the bear silhouette if you are interested I will find the pattern info for you. I also have a more detailed deer silhouette with a reflection which might work well.

Sounds to me like it needs some yellow to pop the green

After you make the changes please post it again. Sometimes questions get asked and we don't know the final outcome. Personally I like it the way it is
