My DIL purchased a wool board for pressing and it smells so foul she is unable to iron on it. She’s wondering if any of you have had a similar problem and if so how did you deal with it. I told her I knew where to find out so looking forward to any help/advice you can give her. Thanks in advance. You are a wonderful source of knowledge.

I don't have a wool pressing board, but wet wool smells awful. I used to do a lot of garment sewing and pressing wool was always smelly. I'm not sure there is any way to avoid that.

She should return it. The worst it should smell is like wet dog if you get the mat wet. They are meant to be used without steam or sprinkled water. Just dry.

My husband objected to the wet dog smell, I had to put it away.

I'm using one at work and since I can't smell it's not a problem and I didn't know that it did. I do like how it presses.

I am like you, I cannot smell. I use mine when I get together with my quilting friends twice a week...no one has said anything about a smell..I would recommend only buying a good quality wool mat!

I love mine. I’d like to get a larger one! I don’t smell a thing when I use it. She should return it and purchase a different brand.

I have on on a small table next to my sewing machine, I think it lightly smelled for a day or two. But now it's fine and i use it all the time. Oh, yes, I have a sensitive noise so if it smelled bad I would have gotten rid of it quickly. Perhaps there is is difference between the brands of wool mats?
