Default applique border help!

I want to do some applique in the white border of this quilt ... help on design ideas!

    Close up

whole quilt - blue shapes are what I have already cut out - there are four of each

here is the go die that I used

I have enough fabric to cut out 2 more sets of the die and that's it ... I'm struggling to come up with something

    Thanks!

Love those. When I don’t have enough to go around I do something around two opposite corners. Beautiful quilting

I have plenty to go around, and have more fabric!

Looks like a beautiful quilting design.

I suggest to let the quilting stand alone and not add the applique. The straight lines on the border are striking. Adding the applique takes away from the dimension that straight lines add to the quilting effect.

Of course, that is not what you were asking. Of course, that's just my point of view.

Best wishes! It's going to be gorgeous!

Beautiful quilting! I might duplicate the feather motifs in the quilting and place the pieces so they make a feather on each corner but I would do them in the white/cream and place them on the large blue border. The white/cream center looks great as it is.

Tartan - I'm not sure what you mean ... i was thinking of putting the "feathers" in the outer white border where there is straight line quilting ... are you saying to do the applique in white on the blue fabric?

It will be beautiful whatever you decide but I would cut a few in the white and place them on a blue border corner in an L shape feather to see what you think.

as usual Marion, you "knocked it out of the park" with your quilting! So if I understand right, you have enough of the blue to do the borders and 4 of the feathers shown on the die? If so, what about using 2 flower/feathers patterns at opposite corners--so that it looks like the feathers are framing 2 diagonal corners. (hope that makes some sense?!)

IMHO the quilt is drop dead gorgeous as it is and doesn't need applique to distract from the beautiful design. If you really want to add the colored feathers, I would make them quite compact and add them to the foot end corners, or put the colored feathers on pillow shams and tie them in that way.

I agree the quilt is gorgeous and doesn't need anything but if I were going to do it.....rather than break up the die pieces, why not lay out the feathers shapes exactly as they are shown on the die. Start at the corner and lay out on the border, towards the opposite end at the foot of the quilt and up the sides. Do in both bottom corners and see what it looks like. Hope this makes sense.
