If anyone has a Bernina 1020, can you let me know what stitch settings I need to do to make a "blanket stitch"? I haven't tried, but someone said I have to "mess" with the settings since it's a mechanical machine and not specifically set up to do a blanket stitch. Anyone know? (This is an older machine). Thanks!

Hi, raw edge - do you mean that you pin it on then sew? I wondered how I could do that. I believe I did a small heart with little ones on a placemat once. If I can applique like that I'll be happy. I'd love to join your group.

Raw edge is fused to the background fabric & then sewn on. Here's a tutorial by Pat Sloan about how to prep for stitching raw edge applique. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r_m84NtcyUk

Once you're fused the applique to the background, you can stitch as desired -- by hand or machine, blanket stitch or satin stitch.

I use fuse able web iron it to my fabric then zig zag around it with a small stitch. I wish there were more people on here. there is hardly ever any post

Count me in. I do not have an applique machine. I use the fusible web and whatever stitch looks good! Can anyone help me find acute applique pattern for "I love you to the moon and back"? I want to make hanging for my DD and GDs. Thank you

I'm not sure how you do your applique. I usually do mine all by hand with a blanket stitch if I'm using fusible since my first machine only had 2 stitches -- straight & zigzag. You can technically use zig zag like a satin stitch, if you prefer that look, by reducing length & increasing width ... and usually going over it twice as it's often not dense enough the first time around. I've done that, though I prefer the look, as well as the calming nature & extra control of hand work.

I do not have a embroidery machine also. I use fuse able and a zig zag stitch like Bree 123 suggested. I do all my sewing on a vintage Kenmore 15813450 which is 36b years old. The only machine I have and only machine I have ever own. I find this machine does what ever I need it to do. Glad to see new postings here. Hope to see more.

I enjoy applique. Needle turn is my favorite. Made a Nativity Quilt that I love and also a Hawaiian Quilt that I'm presently binding. I do not know how to post a picture, but hope to learn in 2016 (wish me luck).
