I am learning to applique and thought this would be fun for all of us to chit chat here about applique. This way we can all learn together!
I have never tried it but our guild had a person come to-day and do a trunk show. Beautiful small quilts, all landscape and themes! The thing that sparked my interest was the "JOURNAL QUILTS" she had made.
I had never seen nor heard of that typeof quilt before to-day. I was really taken with hte idea!

I took an applique class at my last quilt retreat. I have only done a little - by machine (can't by hand because of a problem with my thumbs). I did some applique on a table runner that I posted in my album:

Applique is my favorite kind of quilt. It's kind of like working in a coloring book. I've done the freezer paper/starch hand applique, but the prep time takes awhile. Lately I've been doing machine applique. Much faster, especially if you want to finish something in this lifetime.

I agree with you Kathy, I am not fond of hand work. I also do the raw edge machine applique. I don't have the extra time to turn under the applique and hand sew it to my quilt. I love the look, but not the time involved.

I have done some applique but raw edge and machine zig zagged. I would like to learn the other methods that are out there.

I mainly hand sew everything and that includes applique which is a favourite, I have done rough edge but mainly needle turn.. I am self taught and have done loads over the years. So would love to join you Craftybear
