I just uploaded pictures of the blocks I finished most recently, along with a possible layout for the blocks.
    http://www.quiltingboard.com/members...bums12604.html

The original quilt used slightly brighter, more "Christmas-y" colors - the BOM to which I'm subscribed uses more subdued colors, but I like it. I will use the ivory background fabric to brighten it up. I am thinking I will put trapunto into the alternate blocks.

    Hi Suz,
Can you please expand on this comment. I'm still real new to hand applique and not sure why I should be pressing into a towel. Thanks Felicia

If you press into a terry-cloth towel with the applique face down, you won't be crushing the applique and you can get the background fabric smoother.

Yes, the objective is not to crush your applique design. This is true for machine applique as well as with the hand applique. As a test, press half of your project into a towel or cotton fleece/batting; then check the right side and you will see that your applique is just beautiful.

Well I am new to this thread. I started to learn hand applique a few years ago and learned to make leaves with the needle turn method. That is as far as I have gotten....I make beautiful leaves, great points but that is it. I really want to learn more about applique. My name is Corry and I live in south Florida. I love to quilt and add alot of machine embroidery to my quilting but want to learn applique too. I have downloaded alot of designs from the website fatcatdesigns, I think, Sindy's website and hope to learn so I can use these designs. She has the prettiest pony design but I have been told it is for someone with more experience than I have. Hopefully one day I can tackle the pony design as my grand daughter is waiting....lol. Corry

    Default New to Applique Club

I have looked through all the messages and attached pics. What fun I have had!! It is time to introduce myself.

I am a member of a quilting guild where the members do everything...hand work, machine work, fusing, applique of all kinds... Nine years ago two members started an applique group. Since I was afraid of the "A word" I joined right away and got addicted. Five years ago I joined a new applique group. Both groups have had classes from nationally known teachers.

My two pics are in http://www.quiltingboard.com/members...bums13273.html

Back basting is my favorite method, but I always want to learn new thiings.

This is for my DGD. Yes the borders are wonky, but wonky & done is better than not done.

He cleodaisy. Welcome. I'm about to try back basting so I may be asking you some advice. I am trying all the various methods to see which one I like. I think I'll probably end up with a combination of what I like from each method.
