I usually use a satin stitch (very close together zigzag so it looks like satin ribbon), but have used a blanket stitch. My children's clothes were laundered heavily and never came undone - they were satin stitched. On my daughter's quilt, I used some blanket stitching along with satin stitching and it is holding up well after 6 or 7 years - she one of my children who wash things very often. I do use Wonder Under and I'm sure that helps fuse the fabric edges. Some of the first satin stitched items of clothing didn't use Wonder Under - I don't think it was available 58 years ago, but the satin stitch was fine.
