I always try to keep a little hand project going for doctor appointments, sports practices, etc. I'm thinking about doing some needle turn appliqué, but I just can't find a pattern that I'm interested in. Don't want anything super complicated like a Baltimore Album. Can someone recommend either a pattern or designer who specializes in appliqué patterns? I've done some Lori Smith wool already...anyone else? Thanks in advance.

I have made quite a few Sharon Keightley quilts. I have her book and also purchase the patterns online. She is great and has a variety of quilts from simple to complex.

Have you considered traditional Hawaiian Quilt Patterns? They can be as complicated as you would like and would make a great pillow. You could do one side of the pillow as the positive and the other as the negative. Hope you find something you like!

Check out the 2 fabric applique patterns from Pacific Rim Quilt Company. These patterns are great for learning needle turn. They're easy to work on when you're away from home, because you aren't dealing with lots of pieces of different fabrics.

I was going to suggest Lori Smith, I like her patterns especially for travel because the blocks tend to be smaller, 6" or so.

Lori Holt's patterns are cute and fairly easy. You can incorporate needle turn with wool if you like. There are several samplers to choose from, and I find sampler parts easy to carry around than larger pieces.

I get some inspiration for appliques from Googling "free coloring pages". The designs are simple.

Suzys Sitcom has a variety of applique. I am doing one of hers now, it is cats.
