Art Quilters?
#54
Grandma58, I love your poppies!! How did you adhere the appliques to your background fabric? Did you use a fusible and then invisible thread on the edges?

I quilted the background fabric without the poppies. Once the poppies were done I sewed them onto the background using one of the decorative stitches on my machine. No fusible since each poppy was already pretty thick. I bought some Smooch and other paint type stuff to go around the edges of the poppies where I did not like how they looked. I never use invisible thread, I don't like it. Hope that helps.

I have slowly moved in the art quilt direction--have been experimenting with different types of thread and free motion quilting to accentuate wall hangings. Have only done this on applique qults but it is so much fun. Have yet to design my own art quilt.... maybe someday. You guys are a definite inspiration!

Smooch is a paint I got at Ben Franklin, no heat setting. It has a very fine brush which was perfect for the edges of the poppy. The day I went to Ben Franklin I bought every kind of paint stuff that thought could be potentially useful. I liked the Smooch best. Have not used it for anything else though. I think it is a scrapbooking thing?
