Thanks, everyone! I decided that since this fabric is supposed to be a replacement for jewelry, I want to make something diamond-shaped. From diamonds, I strayed over to 60 degree triangles and there I stayed. I think I'll probably do some kind of warm to dark thingy with 60 degree triangles, perhaps with triangles made out of strips? or perhaps each out of individual fabrics.
My DH (who yes, is a gem, pun intended!) said, "why do you think you need to do anything with them? Just put them in your stash!".
So I may just play with the colors in those fabrics and the rest of my stash by doing a whole bunch of blocks, putting different colors and textures together, and yes, make a sampler. I have a copy of a published family history. I've always thought that it might be fun to do a series of blocks with themes based on events that happened in that book, similar to what I've seen others do.
Anyway, I've been having fun, thanks, in part to you and your inspirational ideas. Thank you.
And I've enjoyed seeing your quilts. They are absolutely marvelous.

If you are thinking of 60 degree triangles how about a pattern from Jaybird...she has lots of patterns that use triangles...love love her patterns....like the ballerina quilt uses 60 degree triangles...I've made this pattern twice Here is one I just made in April for a wedding gift....

The gypsy wife is an unusual quilt, uses many colors and is currently being featured on QB http://www.quiltingboard.com/picture...ml#post7574731
The pattern is found here http://store.heartsongquilts.com/sto...3&Item_ID=4034
Another one that another member of QB is doing is Pythagorus Lute
http://www.quiltingboard.com/main-f1...ml#post7572466
The pattern is found here
https://equiltpatterns.com/Pythagora...-Quilt-Pattern
These are both on my todo list....someday.

I think your original idea of NY Beauty will work best. Have you look at Judy Niemeyer PP patterns? This is the one I still need to do for me!

I do like your stash. I see some RK batiks that I have in my stash!

A sampler is a great idea! And I love story quilts. The very first quilting project I made was a story quilt that was a JAF BOM based on a historical pattern. It was so neat to read about the history of the quilt & what each block was meant to represent in the designer's life over a hundred years ago. Make sure to document the meaning behind each of your blocks -- maybe in some kind of scrapbook (Shutterfly is my go-to site for documenting my quilts -- you can upload photos & add a story & family pics next to each block). What a treasure that will be for your family both now and for future generations ... and a perpetual memorial of both your time with your FIL & your husband's recognition of your care of his dad (not to mention, all the glorious fabrics you acquired!). Can't wait to see the pictures!

well right now I think you are suffering from information overload.......alli given are great ideas, but I think you have to just step back, digest it all, then something will hit you right between the eyes....actually here's another tidbit. Do an art quilt, since it's going to live on a wall make it a pictorial thing.....many easy ways and you can then do some thread work and embellishment right along with it........
