I didn't know there was an official name for "calmer" quilts. I just called mine subdued. Now I know to call them low volume. And it makes perfect sense....they don't shout at you.

I love Crazy Mom Quilts and subscribe to her blog. .Also had the pleasure of meeting her last summer when she came to speak at our LQS. Very nice and friendly gal.

I follow a lot of blogs of the 'modern quilters' and have discovered their fabric sources that way. You might want to look at http://filminthefridge.com/ - she has some low vol prints on her blog post right now and she also mentions several of her fabric sources. Another good one is http://sewkatiedid.wordpress.com/ I have gradually, over the past year, continued to add to my list of quilters that I follow - sometimes just by looking at their lists of their favorite quilters. When you start reading these blogs you start to see the fabric lines and where they are getting them. Good luck, and have fun!

I don't care for the low volume quilts. The colors just get to be a mishmash of uninteresting prints and they just sort of turn to "mud". Not enough contrast for me.

Thanks for the definitions. I don't know how I missed the original thread. I'm having trouble applying this term to fabrics, volume suggests sound or mass to me.
Good thing there is room in the quilting world for all ideas. I don't care for the look either.

The site listed in post #2 in this thread gives a thorough explanation of low volume fabrics.
They look like neutrals to me!

If you slap a new name on something, some people will flock to buy it.
