They are the prefolded ones. They did cost $11.00 for a doz but that was a while back when I last bought some. Walmart does have them.

Hancock sells some material that i use for my backing of burp cloths and for making bibs. It is the fabric you make diapers out of. It feels like cloth on one side and a non-permeable plastic on the other. it is easy to sew with. Just tell them what you want to do with it and they will direct you to it. So I layer with my pieced top , a layer of batting and that fabric as my backing. i had one of the ladies i gave burp cloths to as a gift tell me that mine were the best she had received because nothing leaked through.

I use the cloth diapers also. You can embellish them in all sorts of ways, even embroidery, ric-rac, lace, ribbon, etc.

If I put anything between the cute outer and inner flannel fabric it is a a double layer of plain flannel. It keeps the burp cloth soft, flexible and absorbent. Have fun!

I use bought diapers and trim with a print for girl or boy. I usually machine enbroidery something small on it also.
Some of the prefolded diapers I bought had an inner lining that appeared to be a absorbent insert that I didn't like to work with.

You can buy cloth diapers on e-bay---be sure to look for DSQ(diaper service quality) diapers. They are like the ones that I used 30 years ago on my older kids. They cost $13/dozen when I bought them a year ago.. They are the prefolds....love 'em!

My SIL and I made some burp cloths for a couple baby showers. We didn't put anything in the middle, cotton on one side, flannel on the "spit up" side. We asked the gals after wards how they worked and they said the flannel wasn't absorbing well. We switched to terry cloth on the "spit up" side and they said that did the trick!
