Pink and florals would be my thought if I was asked for a girly quilt. Very soft in appearance, no harsh colors.

I like to use some white eyelet to the border for little girls. What I purchase is about a inch wide and has a slight scallop to the edge. I sew it and the final binding on at the same time on the top the turn binding to back to finish (top, eyelet then binding stacked)

Moda Bakeshop has a Princess and the Pea pattern that I made for my granddaughter. It's cute.

You have some great suggestions here, but if I were you I would have a little chat with the new mommy to see what her idea is of "princess". We all have a different idea of that and so do the new moms. Good luck with your project and have fun!

Think of childhood, when life is fun and breezy and magical. Princesses, butterflies, unicorns, sunshine and stars, kitties and puppies and fairy tales. Bright colors and swirls, maybe a little glitter. Google "princess fabric" for ideas - so pretty!

I think it's more about the fabric choices than the actual pattern. I do love klgls quilt and would use that myself.

Check out Hadleigh's quilt, type that in the search it's a dresdan plate in reproduction prints, I think that is very girlie if I do say so myself.

I was going to suggest the princess fabric. You could use it in a pattern like either of these two I have made.

There is a princess panel that makes up very sweet and quick too! Otherwise dainty pink flowers and tiny soft green leaf prints make up grand.
