I feel your pain!! Embroider something over that part to cover it up.

I think your quilt is cute. Don't give up. Some of these ideas are great. I love the one about adding a hat, maybe with flowers. I see the positive.......if you hadn't washed that blanket before you gave it away how would you feel after they washed it and it did that?

Be sure and check the other appliques. did you use Minkee? I would take this into my embroidery software and examine it under magnification. It looks like it didn't catch at that side and you look like the belly is going to do the same. So even if you redo you could have the same problem. It could be the digitizing of this one duck. A hat could work and a flower on the belly - or an Easter basket, since it is near Easter.
    Good luck it is adorable.

Love the idea of a bonnet or hat. I had a quilt the colors ran after I washed it. I was sick when I saw it (still am). I still have it and my granddaughter uses it. She doesn't care it was made by Grammy. I hadn't been quilting very long and bought some cheap material. I learned the hard way but very valuable lesson.

looks like the chest of the duck needs to be fixed also. it's probably the kind of material you used. use a seam ripper, take the whole duck off, and maybe put another slightly bigger one right back. only use a sturdier different fabric. good thing you washed it, and it happened now. you can fix it. hate for it to have happened after you had gifted it. EASY FIX. we all have to fix something occasionaly.

That is a shame..Such a pretty quilt....Try ripping out the stiching around the duck and see if you can redo that...Good luck...

I had something like this happen to me. I had used water soluble thread in the bobbin.....Silly me.
What I did was take out the block at the sashing. Then I embroidered a new one and kind of reverse appliqued it where the bad one was. I had stippled it (with real thread) and everything and getting the stitches out wasn't as bad as you might think.
    Good luck,
    Susan
