    None of mine have been the same size. I've made 54" x 54", 40" x 40", & 40" x 48" baby quilts.

My quilt ministry makes baby quilts for babies in the special care unit at the hospital......we decided on 40"x 40" as we didn't have to piece the backing and it was easier to put 4 tops on a longarm for one of our members to quilt.

I've done 36 x 45 usually. then I made youth bed sizes. which is the crib mattress in a small bed. about 40 x 60.
hope all this confusion has helped you some. When my son was a baby and fell asleep in the carseat, the QUILT I covered him with was 15 x 20, so go figure!!! good luck and show us what you do.

42 if possible by 50 or larger.
I like to make lap sized ones so babies can use it as a floor quilt, then a toddler blanket and later as a lap quilt.

I like to make my baby quilts a little larger and call them "play" quilts (which I hope encourages them to "use" the quilt). I want the parents to have a little room to sit on part of the quilt to play with the child as he/she grows and for the child to have room for toys to play on the quilt. I prefer not to have to piece the back so if I want it wider, I just add border(s). I think about parent and toddler (as child grows) sitting under the quilt as the parent reads to the child too. I guess what I'm saying, like others have said, is make what pleases you size wise.

Me too, I want them to be able to use them for a while. When the preemie twins were born I made them a few small ones that they out grew really fast. Now at 3 mos old they are around 10 lbs. After that, I try to make them larger. Just like when I make throws for teenagers or adults, I make the so that they can be snuggled up in. I have 6ft and above kids and the normall 2yrds won't even do.
