I put it about where my bra strap (if I am wearing one!) would hit on my back--it forces me to sit up straighter and lean back to keep it in place.
I'll echo someone else's comment--check your table/machine height--your elbows should be at a 90 degree angle--so often we are sitting too low. Also--do get up and stretch, move around at least once per hour. My orthopedist is adamant about that--says too much chance of blood clots in legs if you sit more than an hour. I keep my ironing board on the other side of the room for that reason.

My posture is pretty good as I use to model some, except when I sew....seriously thinking about getting one of the braces mentioned on this question. Anything to save me a number of trips to the chiropractor.

I purchased that brace thingie from Nancy's Notions too. I have not received it yet, but am hoping it will remind me to sit up straight and not stoop over. Will post after it arrives and I've tried it out.

Leah Day sells a quilting back support that puts a 2 pound weight in your lower back area and the pull from the attached shoulder straps remind you to sit up straighter and not curl your back and shoulders forward. (You can find it for sale here, along with a short video that shows it in use and how it works.) If you have some small hand weights (or something similar) on hand, you could probably rig up something similar to see if the general idea is likely to work for you. I haven't tried this product, but I think it looks intriguing.

I highly recommend a Saddle Stool for great posture and comfort while sewing. I bought one with my sit down longarm. After sitting in one at a show, I had to have it! It's the stool in front of my longarm in this picture:

All of the sewing machine dealers at the show were selling them!
